One Semester Courses

interdiac has been offering a series of one-semester courses which have used synergy with teaching from the double degree programme which are offered as a stand-alone course in professional development. As well as being interdiac students, participants are enrolled as the Open University students and can be awarded the certificate of the Open University and interdiac.

So, far following one semester courses were offered:

  • Management for Change and Innovation - spring 2018
  • Knowledge and Skills for Community Empowerment and Participation - autumn 2017
  • Knowledge and Skills for Working on the Issues of Diversity - spring 2017

Management for Change and Innovation

The course built on participant’s experience of working with people and covers the following topics:

  • Understanding the personal basis of social, youth and diaconal work as a positive resource in the work we do.
  • Understanding of context and management of professional work.
  • Learning about project development and management.
  • Learning about professional practice and organisational development.
  • Learning about models of management – ethical and diaconal consideration.
  • Understanding diversity issues in the management of social work and non-profit organisations.
  • Deepening understanding of the ethical basis of social, youth and diaconal work in practice.
  • Integrating the theological and biblical basis of social and youth work and diaconia and relevant spirituality.

Knowledge and Skills for Community Empowerment and Participation - autumn 2017

The course built on participant’s experience of working with people and covers the following topics:

  • Understanding the personal basis of social, youth and diaconal work as a positive resource in the work we do.
  • Understanding of professional practice in community development and user participation.
  • Acquisition of methods in community development work &diaconia.
  • Acquisition of participatory and user research methods.
  • Learning about methods of conflict prevention and resolution.
  • Learning about personal professional development strategies.
  • Deepening understanding of the ethical basis of social, youth and diaconal work in practice.
  • Integrating the theological and biblical basis of social and youth work and diaconia and relevant spirituality.

Knowledge and Skills Working on the Issues of Diversity - spring 2017

The course is built on participants’ experience of working with a diversity of people and covers the following topics:

  • Understanding the personal basis of social, youth and diaconal work as a positive resource in the work we do.
  • Understanding of the issues of diversity, including race, culture, gender and ability.
  • Acquisition of participatory working methods and skills for social work & community development related to the diversity of people and groups.
  • Developing anti-oppressive practice of social work & community development.
  • Developing skills of qualitative research, which can be used in diverse contexts.
  • Deepening understanding of the ethical basis of social, youth and diaconal work in practice.
  • Integrating the theological and biblical basis of social and youth work and diaconia and relevant spirituality.
